Kleiner Parkplatz PDF Print E-mail

This site is named after the fact that it is located right next to a small parking area. This dive is more interesting in the 17 meter to 35 meter range, so may not be so suitable for beginners.

Getting there:

By car, from Zurich city: If you are driving from Zurich city drive down Seestrasse from the Bellevue side of the lake towards Rapperswil. Continue driving for about 15 minutes until you get to Erlenbach. As you pass through Erlenbach the road will be separated from the lake - i.e. the lake is not immediately visible. The road will wind around to the right and the lake will become visible again. The small parking area you see is Kleiner Parkplatz (small parking place). This is the dive site

By car, from Rapperswil: Drive up towards Zurich, through Meilen and past the ferry terminal on your left. Continue on for about one to two kilometres and you'll see a large parking area by the side of the lake. This is Grosser Parkplatz; continue about 200 meters and you should see a smaller parking area - this is the dive site.

By public transport: Take the train to Bahnhof Winkel. Leave the station heading towards the lake, walk down to the Seestrasse and turn left. Walk for approximately 600 meters. The road will wind around to the right and the lake will become visible. The small parking area you see is Kleiner Parkplatz (small parking place). This is the dive site.

Parking: This is a popular site with very limited parking, arrive early to avoid disappointment.

Entry / Exit: Walk down the stairs and you'll find yourself at a small paved area. From here you can sit on the edge of the area and put on your fins. Enter the water, swim out a little and start your descent. This is the only possibility for entry and exit.

Dive Area (Surface): There is no shoreline as such at this site, the water laps up against stone walls across the entire length of the site.

Dive Area (Underwater): The interesting part of this site is in the direction of Rapperswil. Start the dive by heading with the slope on your left shoulder. At around 17 meters you'll find the top of a large stone wall formation which drops down to 35 meters. Some parts of this wall have nice overhanging sections.

What to look for: Occasionally at night you might be lucky enough to see some Hecht.

Facilities: None.
