Dry Suit Diver PDF Print E-mail

Samarangersee, Austria - Steven SmithIf you want to see the spectacular and prolific aquatic life often found in colder water climates you'll need to stay warm and that means a dry suit. However, you want to be trained in proper techniques and this is where PADI Dry Suit Diver Specialty course comes in.

The myths surrounding dry suit diving can sometimes be a little exaggerated. Uncontrolled feet-first ascents, followed by treading water on the surface in a head-down position with fins in the air are simply horror stories, designed for your amusement. Actually dry suit diving can be easily learnt by anyone who has no major problems with their buoyancy.

What will I need to start?
PADI Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water Diver certification (or qualifying certification from another organization). Minimum age 12 years.

What will I do?
During your PADI Dry Suit Diver Specialty course, you'll not only cover the background knowledge related to dry suit diving, you'll get into confined water to put that theory into practice. Then, once you've mastered confined water, it's time for two open water dives, including dive planning, organization, techniques, problems and buoyancy control.

In this course you will learn the theory with respect to materials, procedures and techniques required to handle the equipment. In the practical components you will learn the necessary skills to improve your technique and to dive safely in a controlled manner.

After completion of this course you will have an objective introduction to dry suit diving and the various choices regarding equipment.

How long will it take?
You could complete the course in as little as one day, however two days is more realistic.

Urisee, Austria - ice divingWhat is included?
Air refills, certification card and course materials (if appropriate). Equipment is not included. If you do not own your own set of equipment, we recommend that you buy, rent or borrow it.

When do the courses run?
Courses are organized according to demand, with groups of three or more people. It is possible to schedule the course on a private basis at additional cost.

Where do I go from here?
You can credit this course as one of the five specialities required for the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating. At your instructor's discretion this course may also be credited towards the Adventure Dive requirements for either the Advanced Open Water or Advanced Open Water Plus courses. Further speciality courses are also recommended to increase your knowledge and experience in other aspects of diving that may appeal to you.
