Samarangersee, AustriaAny time you're diving from 300 to 3000 metres feet above sea level, you're altitude diving. If you want to explore the hidden world of a mountain lake, the PADI Altitude Diver Specialty course is for you.

This course covers the knowledge skills and techniques of altitude diving, offering you a safe and supervised introduction to diving at higher altitudes. Participants will have an understanding of the different surface and ambient pressures and the relationship of these to diving at altitude.

What will I need to start?
PADI Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water Diver certification (or qualifying certification from another organization). Minimum age 12 years.

What will I do?
The Altitude Diver Specialty course familiarizes you with the rules and procedures necessary to use the Recreational Dive Planner at altitude. This includes:

  • Altitude dive planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards
  • Special Recreational Dive Planner procedures for diving at altitude
  • Safety stops and emergency decompression procedures
  • Special equipment necessary for altitude diving

The course consists of a theory module and two practical sessions in open water.

Our own mountain lakes offer ideal conditions to complete this course. Horizontal visibility of 60 meters or more is normal. Don't forget - all of this comes in addition to fantastic mountain scenery.

How long will it take?
You could complete the course in as little as one day.

Samarangersee, AustriaWhat is included?
Air refills, certification card and course materials (if appropriate). Equipment is not included. If you do not own your own set of equipment, we recommend that you buy, rent or borrow it.

When do the courses run?
Courses are organized according to demand, with groups of three or more people. It is possible to schedule the course on a private basis at additional cost.

Where do I go from here?
You can credit this course as one of the five specialities required for the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating. At your instructor's discretion this course may also be credited towards the Adventure Dive requirements for either the Advanced Open Water or Advanced Open Water Plus courses. Further speciality courses are also recommended to increase your knowledge and experience in other aspects of diving that may appeal to you.
